The Green Book Road Trip is an interactive cross-country virtual road trip designed to help you understand the segregation, or Jim Crow, era in the United States that was the time of the Green Book. We equip you with the “Jim Crow Kit,” a collection of items that Black folks always took with them on a trip. When we need to stop for gas along the way, you’ll be asked to look up a place in the Green Book. The same goes for places to eat or spend the night. Besides the dangers, we’ll have some of the same fun folks had too.
The Jazz Band Road Trip takes one step further into an immersive experience. You are cast as members of a jazz band led by Victor Green’s brother-in-law Bob Duke. The band has landed in Greenwood, but Bob is lost somewhere along the way. Through a series of puzzles you help locate Bob and use the Green Book to help him navigate safely to join you in Greenwood.
The Victor Green Guided Virtual Road Trip is a set of videos in which an avatar of Victor Green guides viewers by narrating a set of scenarios, such as getting gas, stopping at a cafe, and finding a motel. In each scenario, the avatar asks viewers to use a copy of the Green Book to decide where to stop.
The videos are available to lease on a portal. The video set can be combined with a package that includes lesson plans as well as historical artifacts, such as Green Book copies, maps, and Jim Crow kit articles (shoebox meal, pillows and blankets, extra can of gas, extra water, chauffeur’s cap, Freemason’s ring, etc.).
